We all know that too much salt in our diet may lead to cardiovascular diseases such as heart failure and heart attack as well as the possibility of a stroke. But in America 3300mg of sodium is the average eaten daily and this equates to 1000mg over the daily amount of sodium that is recommended.
Avoid taking more than 2300mg of sodium every day. People who are African American or are over the age of 51 and have high blood pressure, diabetes or kidney disease should be taking no more than 1500mg of sodium daily.
We are aware that eating a large bag of salted potato chips or processed meat will have large amounts of salt. But there are other foods that contain more salt than one portion of chips.
